We are looking for a senior engineering lead for CoMPASS, the team responsible for metadata management, search and discovery, content management systems, and enablement of our syndication capabilities. Together these systems form the foundation of Comcast's current and future media services.


Reporting to the Vice President of Cross-Platform Services, this person will have responsibility for a large team across our Philadelphia, DC and Denver innovation centers. The CoMPASS team is one of the largest at Comcast, and manages many systems that are critical to our business, so this role presents an opportunity for significant impact. Responsibilities of this position include:

- Operational management of CoMPASS' large distributed data-intensive systems

- Development and delivery of new platform capabilities that enable innovative and compelling customer experiences

- Driving the application of best practices in engineering, devops, scale and reliability

- Continuing the migration of core system components to AWS

- Foster a strong partnership with Product Management to ensure we are building world-class products that benefit our customers and business

- Development of the next generation of leaders within the organization

- Facilitating collaboration between CoMPASS and other teams at Comcast

- Represent the accomplishment of the team to senior leadership



- 15 years' experience in software engineering, 6 years relevant experience as an executive leader of large software engineering teams (100 )


- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

- Advanced degree desirable


- Exceptional technical skills ability to manage complex distributed software development programs

- Exceptional executive skills ability to set clear objectives and focus and motivate teams to drive execution, to prioritize issues and to discern level of urgency and triage appropriately when necessary

- Strong people leader with executive presence and emotional intellligence

- Exceptional communication skills ability to create clear and concise messages that are audience-appropriate in level of detail and tone, ability to create and maintain process artifacts as required. Be able to explain and document technology strategy to diverse audiences.

- Exceptional collaboration skills ability to build and maintain relationships, to influence without direct authority; ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries

- High level of accountability takes ownership of problems and sees them through to resolution

- High energy thrives in fast-paced, high-rate-of-change setting; ability to balance competing priorities in a very dynamic/fast paced environment


- Familiarity with all aspects of modern software development tools and practices

- Experience with 24/7 operation of large, distributed, data-intensive systems

- Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases

- Experience with large-scale deployments in the public cloud (esp., AWS)

- Domain knowledge of media, metadata, search and recommendations a strong plus


- Travel between Philadelphia and DC offices
